We danced out today with ‘Moreton Bay Fig Morris’, a side from roughly 5,500 miles away, in San Diego, California. They were respectable enough, I suppose. One or two of them were rather portly, and could barely get off the ground, but on the whole, they were a decent enough side. I’ve certainly seen far worse.
More importantly, they seemed a fairly pleasant bunch of people. I thought some of the interaction was a little awkward at first, but in the evening we all went back to Bob and Lesley’s (two of our dancers) for a barbecue, and with a little lubrication, the conversation flowed much more smoothly. Alas, while we will be dancing with them again on tuesday evening, I will not be there, as I will be in Exeter for that evening, getting drunk and being disreputable with friends.
And a number of them seemed to like my playing, and particularly the way I tend to move about when playing. Which is always nice.
Priceless quote for the day:
“Couldn’t we keep them here, and send Charlbury back to the States?”
