Hmm. My finding would seem to indicate that they swiped the BSD mascot.

“Conceived in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and ninety eight…” and later “… in January 2001 the incarnation of the soon to be relatively famous Naughty Vend was born!”

So, thought of in 1998 (or so they say), actually rolled out in 2001.

The Head is slightly different, it’s a little more enlongated, but overall the two mascots are very similar…

That's exactly what I thought! The company's website is here. I notice that their logo has something attached to its head that isn't on the BSD daemon, but other than that it's clearly ripped off.
