Damn, I suck. It’s thursday and I still haven’t got around to posting about the weekend. So here goes:
I spent last weekend at the second Oxford Folk Festival, which was very good indeed. Saw some very good acts (Those that I actually saw were Show Of Hands, Danú, Juan Martín & Quinteto Fabuloso, The Demon Barbers Roadshow, Coope, Boyes and Simpson, Jaune Toujours, The Wrigley Sisters, Bella Hardy, David Hughes, Sild, Jali Fily Cissokho, Mawkin, Norbert Pignol, Songs from the Blue House, Scattergood and Cartwright, Jon Loomes, Without Ceremony and Zöe Bicât). The ever-wonderful Show Of Hands were particularly on form, and turned in a fantastic set.
My and Jessica’s set on Saturday evening went very well and we turned in what was probably the best performance we’ve yet done, despite Jessica having a sore throat which made singing difficult. The running order that I hurriedly wrote out 20 minutes before we went on had two of our three songs near to the end, so that they could be skipped over if we were running out of time, and, conveniently, we did run short of time and left out three of the nine pieces we had prepared, including the aforementioned two songs.
On the Sunday night there was an excellent music session in the Half Moon, which, in addition to the usual crowd, featured Norbert Pignol on melodeon and Mauro Sanin on hurdy-gurdy. Les Barker was also present, and read a few of his poems.
As I usually do at festivals, I picked up a T-shirt, which, to my great excitement, lists most (if not all) of the artists performing over the weekend, including us! I’m on a T-shirt – how cool is that?!
Oh, and I discovered that my Sluggy Grand Auto Theft: Linux T-shirt had arrived over the weekend, too. Hurrah!
I want an Al Marshall T-shirt as well! Are they for sale? Would I be supporting you & sis?
I’m pretty sure they’ll have sold out; they didn’t have many left when I got mine on the Saturday.
And you’d only be supporting the festival, not either of us directly. But, that said, the better the festival does, the more likely they’ll be able to afford to pay us to come back next year.
