A marvellous weekend, I feel.
Headed back to Oxford on Friday, where Jessica and I were playing at the Oxford Folk Club. Our first gig as the main attraction. I thought it went very well. Sure, there were mistakes, and Jessica was less pleased than I was, but I felt that it was probably the best performance I’ve given. Went over to the Half Moon to play a few more tunes for a while, then headed home. Got to bed at about 2.30am. An excellent evening.
Then up at 6 to get to Cambridge by 9 to play for Ducklington at for Gog Magog Molly’s day of dance. It was a cold day, but not exceptionally for the time of year. The dancing was good, and we had a pretty good day. Then back to the Half Moon in the evening for a big session, which was being held to celebrate Danny from Mawkin‘s birthday. Good tunes, good company; and good food was also provided. Got to bed at about 5am. A marvellous day.
My original plan to catch the 2.15 train back failed when I didn’t wake up until after 1.00. Went, along with Jessica, Becca, Ian Woods, the three-quarters of Mawkin that had been there, and someone else whose name I’m not sure of but I got the impression was related to Dave and Jamie, to the Tick-Tock cafe for breakfast (which was excellent).
Marched across Oxford to the station, stopping only to get a drink on the way, and arrived les than five minutes before the 3.15 train arrived. Once I got into So’ton, it was then a case of rushing back to my house, dropping off my bag and melodeon, grabbing my bag of dice, and then walking across Southampton for a game of World of Darkness, which was good fun. Our characters have just discovered a taste of how nasty the world is.
Stopped off at Rajdhani on the way home to investigate whether or not it is really, as has been claimed, the best kebab shop in Southampton. It was certainly very good.
Was absolutely exhausted by this point, and went to bed shortly after getting home.
