Woo.
Last time I played at the Hobbit, I sucked. I don’t really know why, but somehow I just had a really bad night. My playing was flat and uninspired, my singing was out of tune as often as not, and it just didn’t work somehow.
Then last week I went along, hoping to redeem myself, but made the mistake of turning up late, and didn’t get to play. There were lots of good acts on, so I still had a good evening, but still the last set I played had been rubbish.
So along I went this evening. For the most part, it wasn’t a very good night; there were a few people on who were quite good but overall the standard was a bit lower than usual. And I was on second from last, so the small group of friends who had come along to see me had to wait for ages and were kept up longer than intended. But my turn to play finally came around and I thought it went really well. Okay, so my singing was a bit uneven for Bonny Light Horseman, but otherwise it was pretty good, and that song is a bugger to sing anyway. So while I don’t know that I was worth the wait as such, I at least feel that I’ve redeemed myself after last time.
Yay for not sucking!
’twas indeed worth the wait!
But there were no songs about fishies…
Just for you, Andy:
And when I’m in my grave and dead
And all my sorrows they are passed and fled
Transform me then into a fish
And let me swim in a jug of this
I promise I’ll sing it next time you’re there.
