Employment

Things are looking up on the job front. Firstly, I have an interview for a Lab Technician job with LGC Forensics on Tuesday. Secondly, Signal want me back on a permanent basis.

The problem with the Lab tech job is that it’s in Culham, which is about two hours away by public transport. Plus, of course, I don’t know for sure whether I’ll actually like it. But the pay is better than at Signal, and even if it isn’t any more interesting (which I suspect it will be) it’s more likely to lead on to something better.

Of course, if I don’t get the LGC job, then it doesn’t matter whether it’s the best fun in the world. So I’ve told Signal that I’ll let them know next Thursday, depending on how the interview goes.

Meanwhile, the computer is still out of action, despite the new case and PSU arriving today. I connected everything up, turned it on, and there was a loud pop. Now I’m pretty sure that there wasn’t anything that could be connected the wrong way round or anything like that, so why anything should have exploded, I don’t know. I’m going to try a few other things first, but I have a horrible feeling that this is going to mean a new motherboard, i.e. more expense. Which makes it a particularly good thing that I’m not going to be unemployed for long, I suppose.

  1. Hugo says:

It could just be the fuse from the mains plug. Has happened to me more than a couple of times.

  2. Oddly enough, I’m not sure the power cable is 100% fine (it would have been really embarrassing if that were the only problem after I’d bought a new PSU), but careful inspection reveals several burst capacitors on the motherboard, so it’s definitely dead.
