So, election yesterday. If you didn’t vote, you suck (assuming you were eligible, obviously). If you voted BNP, you also suck (I thought Charlie Brooker’s recent column on the subject was rather good).
What I don’t understand is why anyone would vote for UKIP or No2EU or whoever in this election. Okay so you don’t like the EU. Fair enough, I don’t agree but whatever. I can see why you might vote for a get-us-out-of-Europe party in a national election, so that they could then push the ‘leave Europe’ agenda in Parliament. But the European Parliament is there and doesn’t have the power to kick us out. So why would you want to send as your representative a bunch of guys whose sole stated agenda is to whine about how they don’t want to be in it?
The argument would be an anti-EU party in the European Parliament wouldn’t vote for more integration, more powers for Europe, that sort of thing.
Other parties might vote against such things, a anti-EU party definitely would. Hence the vote.
