See, I was desperately hoping for a buzz-cut, or some such thing. Trims don't count as hair cuts!

Why would you doubt me?

I didn't have it cut short or anything; just a bit off the ends to tidy them up. You probably wouldn't notice the difference even if I did supply pics.

Pics or didn't happen!

Curiosity strikes, however; could women go to the barbers instead? I know guys who go to hairstyley places, and are charged as much as the ladies (which is fair, if extortionate)

*MY* haircuts cost £1; YAY COLLEGE!

I've often had the same question about auto insurance for young drivers. Sure, I understand the business reasons for charging males more than females, but it still seems unfair that having a Y-chromosome, something that was decided before you were even born, dictates that you pay so much more.

I had a friend in high school that had a perfect driving record, yet his insurance still cost more than that of a girl down the street of the same age who had caused three accidents and gotten five traffic tickets.

Well look on the bright side: either the cringe will wear off over the next few weeks now you're aware of it or it won't and then a career in writing elitist and pretentious music reviews will beckon. No downside as far as I can see.

Normally, neither do I. That's why it's irritating to discover I'm more of a snob than I realised.

I only own three of those. On the other hand, I never make any claims of being especially anti-establishment - just musically eclectic

28mm is too large a scale for Warhammer, really. The way regiments move about in blocks makes no sense at all when you're only dealing with units of about 15-30 soldiers. I know some games (mostly historical ones rather than SF/Fantasy) deal with this by explicitly saying that one model represents several soldiers, but that doesn't work for a game like Warhammer where characters have as much impact as they do. But at 15mm or smaller, you could certainly get a lot closer to the number of men that the rules imply.

I guess what 28mm does work well for is skirmish/gang warfare games like Necromunda or Mordheim (or Blood Bowl), where you don't need a whole army of models, but you do want more than four or five.

I suspect the compromise has more to do with what's appropriate for the game they're meant for. Any larger size for warhammer and they wouldn't fit decent size armies on any sort of table - the Epic scale is based on 40K shrunk so as to give the titans a reference point.

But if we're just talking about miniatures outside of existing game context, from a painting perspective the best kind of game is probably one with 5-20 models a size at the much larger scales - perhaps some of the mecha style wargames could accomplish this
